At approximately 8:00 am on Friday, August 21st, the Waymon L. Boyd dredging vessel struck a submerged natural gas pipeline, sparking a large explosion at the Port of Corpus Christi, Texas.
Reports indicate that 19 crewmembers were working on the dredge at the time of the explosion.
The blast left six workers injured (five of whom were airlifted via HALO-Flight to San Antonio’s Brooke Army Medical Center), while another four have been reported missing and are feared to be dead.
[UPDATE] Two bodies have been recovered by the coast guard, while the other two crew members are still missing.
The Waymon L. Boyd is owned by Orion Marine Group. A company spokesperson has stated that the crew was based out of Lavaca and that the group was performing work on behalf of a private port client, not the Port of Corpus Christi itself.
A Coast Guard search and rescue operation and a National Transporation Safety Board (NTSB) investigation are currently underway.
An explosion can wreak havoc on both the lives of the injured and their families. Your loved one may be left with lasting injuries and permanent disability or disfigurement. They will likely incur significant medical bills. Their ability to work and earn income may be significantly reduced or taken away completely. In the event that your loved one was killed, dealing with their loss may be even greater.
While no one can prevent what has happened or bring a lost loved one back, the right attorney can stand up for you and your family. A lawyer can fight to secure the financial compensation that you and your family need to move forward. A lawyer can hold the company or other entity accountable for the conditions that caused the explosion.
